Recruiting cleaners for your cleaning company can be stressful. You probably hear it all the time (and may have said so yourself), "good help is hard to find."
It's true, finding "A-players" that stick around is no easy task.
Although there is no hidden secrets when it comes to recruiting, we have found ways to streamline the process and make it easier than ever before using CleanCore.
If you'd rather watch a video instead of read, just scroll to the bottom of the page!
Historically speaking, you work hard and spend some money to get your name out there to jobseekers. Once you've got a decent team of cleaners built up, you can leverage them to introduce you to new great cleaners. Some even offer referral incentives.
This is challenging because it's not predictable and it isn't scalable.
The cleaning industry tends to have a fairly high turnover rate. That said, many cleaning companies find themselves in difficult situations when cleaners decide to quit and pursue other opportunities.
I know I have experienced this in my own cleaning company, several times.
It's not fun when you have to call customers to reschedule their cleaning or even process refunds because you don't have any cleaners to fulfill the cleaning service.
The other issue comes with onboarding only after you've found what could be your next great cleaner or cleaning team.
When it comes to finding awesome cleaners, there is no solution that works 100% of the time.
You will need to work through multiple people to find the really good ones that hang around for a while.
Given that recruiting is a huge part to growing a 7 figure cleaning company, we set out to try and solve this problem using technology.
We broke it down into these parts to make things more manageable:
Generate
Filter
Onboard
Train
First, we had to find ways to generate applicants or else this "machine" we were building would starve.
You might hate them, but we have had great success using Indeed to get more qualified applicants in our funnel.
There is the correct way to do this, and there is the flat out WRONG way to do this!
If you're not careful, you can spend a lot of money without getting any results.
I won't go into this strategy here since it's something we teach our students in 7Figure Cleaners, but I will leave you with this...
"We don't spend a penny on Indeed"
Since you can't insert a clickable link on Indeed without going through their support team, you'll need to message your applicants using a templated message with your custom CleanCore link in the message.
"Hi [first_name],
Thank you for your interest in working with [company_name].
We'd love to speak with you about this position but first, take a few minutes to learn more about this opportunity to make sure it's a good fit for you.
Click the link below and follow the prompts. If there's a potential fit, you'll have the opportunity to schedule a call with someone from our team:
[CleanCore_apply_now_link]
Hope to chat with you soon,
[your_name]
[your_title]
[company_name]"
If you're able to get your link directly integrated with the Indeed platform, you won't need to do this step!
Once we get the volume dialed in, now we can focus on step 2, filtering the applicants.
Notice I said "to find experienced individuals" and not "a-players?"
You won't know if someone is really good until they actually start working and you get great feedback from your customers on a consistent basis.
Our goal with this step is to find experienced cleaners who are eligible to work and clearly understand the opportunity.
As far as the rest, we want them out of our system as they will most likely (not always) waste our time.
This is why CleanCore is more than just a CRM for cleaning companies...
In your CleanCore account, you have the ability to create systems for many things, including recruiting.
Here are a few components that make up the recruiting system we built:
Calendar for interviews
Form to act as an "apply now" form
Survey to either qualify or disqualify applicants
Pipeline to manage the steps
Workflows to power the automation
Landing pages to host the calendars, forms, surveys, and job post
It's a pretty complex system but when you sign up for your own CleanCore account, you'll get everything we're going to talk about here in this article and much more!
We essentially created a funnel that will take them from the job post, put them through a qualification process, and then present them with a calendar to book a call if they are someone who might potentially be a good fit for our team.
This works for both W2 Employees and 1099 Independent Contractors.
Once you have the calls booked, you'll simply jump on a call with your new prospective cleaners and determine who you want to invite to join your team.
After the official invites have been sent, it's time for onboarding.
Onboarding is a critical "make it or break it" step in growing your cleaning team.
You've established enough trust with your new cleaner(s) and now it's time to follow through with getting the proper documentation signed and access granted.
CleanCore helps us do this quickly and effectively, leaving out no steps along the way.
For example, we use CleanCore to help us collect the following from our Independent Contractors:
Independent Contractor Agreement
Non-Solicitation Agreement
W9 Form
General Liability Insurance (we show them where to get it if they don't have it)
We're also able to collect any state-specific forms that may be required.
Once we have the goods, it's time to give them access to our platforms.
Here are a few things we give our cleaners access to:
Internal communication software (Slack)
Service software (where they'll see job details)
Training portal (to brush up on skills and more)
By building this into CleanCore, we can be confident that there are no steps left out of the onboarding process.
Once our cleaners have completed the onboarding process, they are ready for training.
This will work for both W2's and 1099's. The difference will be how you present it and whether or not it's required.
For employees, it can be mandatory.
You'll probably want to make it optional for your subcontractors though...
It's best to refer to a legal professional in your state to ensure you are maintaining that "separation" between subcontractors and employees. You don't want to incur fines or penalties.
There are two different ways you can utilize CleanCore to provide your new recruits with the training they need:
Use a text and/or email campaign to send them direct link access to a professional training course for cleaning staff.
Build your own training course directly inside of CleanCore and grant them access to it.
Whatever you decide is fine - the point is to complete the process by giving your new team members the tools, training, and resources they need to be successful working in or with your cleaning company.
As you can see, CleanCore is a powerful tool that can help you recruit faster and more effectively.
You could easily pay a recruiter thousands of dollars or spend hundreds on specialized recruiting software, but we've found that CleanCore does an amazing job with recruiting and onboarding.
We've been able to scale using one platform for almost everything in our cleaning business.
Hopefully you can see the value in having one system you can use to grow your cleaning company.
